If you’ve lost your Social Security card, getting a new one doesn’t have to be complicated. Instead of finding a Social Security office near you, you may even be able to request a new one online.

For some people, getting a new card might not be necessary. Simply knowing your number can help you navigate and access many government services. But if you do need one, there are a few tips that can help.

• Create a My Social Security account at ssa.gov to quickly apply for a new card
• Have a driver’s license or state-issued identification on hand
• Follow the easy on-screen instructions to navigate the portal
