A Berwick, Maine, woman must repay $60,000 in Social Security and public housing benefits after a court ruled she obtained them fraudulently.

Adreanna Politano lied about the presence of her husband in her household for more than a decade. This was so she could conceal his income, which allowed her to continue receiving benefits.

In addition to paying back the money, she’ll be sentenced to three years probation. The defendant acknowledged she knew what she did was wrong. She said her fear of having the benefits canceled motivated her actions.
