A man is facing 5 years in prison plus $250,000 in fines for lying regarding his Social Security disability benefits.

Aaron Lee Grossman of Hamilton was receiving disability benefits after applying the proper way. However, he was informed of one important condition. If he was able to work again, he’d need to inform the Social Security Administration.

When he earned $36,210 from work, he submitted a Work Activity Report but did not disclose his income — which would’ve disqualified him from benefits. When administrators reached out to him to inquire about the income, he told them his wife earned it!

The man may also be required to pay back the $71,456 in benefits he received. This type of activity strains the program, making it difficult for those in need both of benefits and of support.
