Should You Take Social Security Early?

As we’ve mentioned before here at NORA, the age you choose to take Social Security can impact your experience with the program.

Waiting to take benefits can leave you with a bigger check — we’ve talked about the optimal age for claiming Social Security, and noted that the benefit amount you end up with will be the one you keep indefinitely.

While the waiting game is wise to play in the right circumstances, there are benefits to taking Social Security ASAP. The earliest you can take it is at age 62, and this can be helpful for some people as pointed out by Maurie Blackman of WFMZ.

For seniors who are out of work or are facing serious health issues, retiring early is worth it even if it does mean a lower benefit. There’s also the option to take it early if you’re well-off financially and don’t need a higher benefit in order to enjoy retirement life.

No matter your age or income, NORA fights for all retirees to get fair yearly COLAs. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for more news about our mission and for more news retirees can use.
