Often lost in the retirement debate between Baby Boomers and Millennials, there’s a unique perspective from Gen X on Social Security.
While many Baby Boomers are already in retirement, younger adults are just thinking of retirement planning. But what about the generation in the middle?
Born between 1965-1980, this group is inching very close to retirement. They also have a unique distinction. They’re the first generation that will be impacted by the 1983 update to the retirement age.
This change puts it at 67 rather than 65 — and for those with lower life expectancy, this could function as a benefit cut. This generation will also be entering retirement right around 2035 — when partial insolvency is predicted.
Are you a member of this generation? What are your thoughts on Social Security’s future? Do you expect it to be there for you, or are you worried?
