Many retirees are already looking forward to the new year.

While the recent announcement of a record high COLA has many optimistic for 2022, let’s look further – as in over a decade further.

In 2035, Social Security could be in a tough place. The program is chugging along in a strained economy, but the factors fueling concerns have been brewing for years.

These include longer life expectancies and a disproportionate number of recipients compared to people paying in. While payroll taxes could cover about three-quarters of the projected needs of the program, the remaining gap is concerning.

If Social Security benefits were cut, it could impact both current retirees and people who are expecting to receive benefits.

At NORA, we’re committed to making sure Social Security is there for those who deserve it. With your help in the form of your signature on our petition, we can call on Congress to guarantee beneficiaries the fair COLA they earned each and every year.
