Some people claim that the struggles of dealing with bureaucracy can worry a person to death — just not in the literal sense.

Thankfully Ms. Judy Milleville of Altamont is alive and well. But this is news to the Social Security Administration, as it incorrectly listed her as deceased in mid-November. She discovered the error when she saw her benefit was deposited, then taken back out a couple of days later.

The error also impacted her dealings with her credit card company, whom she called after the card was declined. The entire situation has been a confusing mess to deal with, and she said the Social Security Administration wouldn’t take her word that she was alive — she has to meet with them in person to line it out.

As for the explanation she got? She was told “sometimes that happens.”
