NORA readers likely saw our post recently about the Social Security Administration’s move to a completely paperless model.
However, just over a week after the announcement, the SSA’s commissioner now says the decision is being reversed. Rather than making all payments electronic, beneficiaries will still be able to receive paper checks. But they’re still urged to make the switch, as it’s said doing so could help the agency speed up payment processing, while also reducing costs and fraud.
Why the switch back? Many complained about the mandated electronic upgrade, as not everyone has easy access to banking and can manage their funds completely electronically.
