Those in need of Social Security disability benefits can’t always afford to wait — but these days they have no choice.
As we’ve documented, Social Security support has been spotty for the past couple of years. This doesn’t just apply to seniors and their retirement benefits, either.
People have been left waiting a long time to change their Social Security number, get errors corrected, and to apply for Social Security disability benefits. The latter situation has gotten so bad, some experts say more funding is needed to manage the delays.
As noted by CNBC’s Lorie Konish, phone wait times have gotten about 10 times longer in the last 10 years. Some claimants can be left waiting years for their final decision, with many dying before the decision comes.
These delays need to be dealt with — how do you think the Social Security Administration (SSA) can improve support? Let us know your answers in the comments, then follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
