Don’t Fall for Social Security Scams

Social Security scams are always a risk, and they’re becoming widespread once again.

Heading into a season of shopping and travel, many people may need to confirm their identity and use their Social Security number to do so.

Unfortunately, this means that scammers are hard at work. It’s not always the Social Security Administration (SSA) they’re posing as. Scammers like this one posed as a member of Amazon. The victim called the police to report her mistake, but her Social Security number is now in the hands of a stranger.

Seniors are often targeted the most. However, they aren’t the only targets. Thieves are even stealing children’s Social Security numbers.

Here at NORA, we cover this topic closely. We’ve previously provided tips on how to protect your Social Security number. You can also change it if your number has already been compromised.
