Is the 2021 Social Security Increase Truly Good News?

A recent article in Forbes referred to the 1.3% COLA increase for retirees as “good news.” But is the 2021 Social Security increase truly good news for seniors?

Compared to 2010, 2011 and 2016, it certainly is. Those years, the Social Security increase for seniors was ZERO! Meanwhile, basic living expenses such as food, clothing, and healthcare continue to rise.

NORA believes in a more fair, dependable cost-of-living-adjustment for seniors. COLAs have been disgracefully low. That is why we advocate for a permanent, 3% COLA for seniors.

The Guaranteed 3% COLA for Seniors Act proposes that this COLA be retroactive to 2010. Only this way can America’s retirees be compensated for low and missing COLAs.
