The COVID-19 vaccine is now available to older adults in every state. While the age cutoff varies, those over the age of 65 are eligible in every corner of the country. Although scheduling an appointment can still be a challenge, according to AARP, more than 70% of American seniors have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

For many seniors, receiving the COVID-19 vaccine means that they will be able to spend time face-to-face with loved ones without worry. Being “fully vaccinated” means that at least two weeks have passed since you’ve received all doses of your vaccine.

The CDC has released guidelines detailing what those who have been fully vaccinated can do. Steps that seniors who have been vaccinated can take include:

  • Seeing other fully vaccinated people indoors without masks
  • Seeing unvaccinated people from one household indoors without masks
  • Not quarantining after exposure to COVID-19

The CDC offers more details on their site. Also, if you haven’t yet received your COVID-19 vaccine, they offer tips on how to prepare as well.

At NORA, we’re working to improve the lives of seniors every day. We’re working to pass legislation that would guarantee a higher cost-of-living-adjustment for all Social Security beneficiaries. The COVID-19 vaccine and increased Social Security benefits can both improve quality of life for American seniors.
