A Missouri man is facing charges for cashing his late mother’s Social Security check decades after her passing.
Reginald Bagley didn’t report her passing to the Social Security Administration in 1994. By 1998, he’d opened a bank account to direct deposit her Social Security payment.
He quickly closed the account in 2020, after his late mother was sent a letter about why she wasn’t using her Medicare benefits.
The man stole nearly $200,000 this way. He faces up to 10 years in prison, $250,000 in fines, or both — and is ordered to repay the money.
