The Social Security Administration (SSA) has committed two grave mistakes in the truest sense of the term.
By incorrectly listing alive individuals as deceased, they’ve created a nightmare for these people. Jermaine Boyles was informed he was listed as dead when he went to a medical appointment. The confusion may have come from the fact that his mother recently passed, though she was married and did not use the Boyles name. The man has been so busy trying to straighten things out with banks and other organizations, he hasn’t even had time to mourn his loss.
Mary Tsukamoto also experienced this error. Her daughter, Deborah Cristobal, has been fighting to get back her mother’s Social Security money. She says the bank yanked it from the account after they were informed the woman was dead. While her mother has still been getting help from Noble Hospice, the SSA has left her daughter frustrated after hours of waiting on the phone and being hung up on trying to fix this problem.
NORA readers will know these errors aren’t unheard of. We’ve covered previous “errorbituaries” by the SSA here and here. To get more content about Social Security and retirement, follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
