Here at NORA, we promote our petition to ensure seniors get the full Social Security benefits they’ve earned.
But while underpayments are a big problem that we’re working to solve, there are also issues on the other side of the spectrum. Current overpayment errors amount to billions of dollars, and a lot of inconvenience for those affected.
That’s because they’re required to send the money back. For some people, this is hard, as they aren’t aware of the error or sometimes simply don’t have the time to straighten the problem. As we’ve mentioned, wait times with the Social Security Administration (SSA) can sometimes be hours or even days long.
What are your thoughts on this situation? How are such errors made? Who should be accountable? Share your opinion in the comments. Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
