When Your Social Security Benefits Could Be Garnished

We all should be able to rely on our benefits in old age. But are there instances when your Social Security could be garnished?

This is a question many people have. While everyone deserves Social Security if they’ve paid in, sometimes debts can take a chunk out of these payments.

There are a few cases where this can happen. Some examples include a person who has outstanding child support or alimony payments due. The same is true with federal tax debt, or outstanding student loans.

Are you worried that your benefits may be at risk? Do you think it’s fair that retirement income is subject to these conditions? We want to know your thoughts.

We support fair yearly cost-of-living adjustments (COLA)s for all Social Security recipients. To learn more about our work, click here – then follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
