For the past few years, the economy has been rough on all of us.
Now imagine you’re unable to work. Consider you have serious health issues. These factors, and others, make up the lives of many seniors and retirees. It’s easy to see why they’re more concerned about the state of the economy.
While last year’s 8.7 percent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) broke records, this year’s 3.2 percent increase is underwhelming. It should be mentioned that even last year’s increase didn’t suffice as a true difference maker for those in extreme economic conditions.
As prices remain high along with government spending, seniors have a right to be dismayed by this number. Even in an ideal economy, it would be less than seniors deserve. But given how hard things are right now? It’s only natural to expect this increase will bring some backlash.
