A New York woman had her Social Security benefits stolen. The culprit? Signs point to a scammer who used a common trick involving an ATM.
As discussed here by ABC 7, the woman believes that she used an ATM that had a skimmer on it. This is a device that fits over standard machines, but reroutes information to data thieves.
Now she’s lost her Supplemental Security Income, which was used to help her children. She also has to worry about security issues, since the scammer managed to change her address.
