The Mental Benefit of Higher Social Security Payments

As we move closer to 2027 and its COLA increase announcement, seniors are holding out for higher Social Security benefits.

The 2026 COLA increased payments by 2.8 percent, which amounts to about $50 on average. While we believe this Cost-of-Living Adjustment should’ve been higher, there’s hope that 2027’s increase (which will be announced next month) will continue the upward trend.

Another reason an increase is beneficial, beyond the added spending power, is that it provides peace of mind. We know that money isn’t everything, but the more financially stable a person feels, the easier it is for them to pursue other forms of wellness.

Increased benefits can provide extra cash for nutritious food, a gym membership, time with friends, and other healthy life choices. It’s one reason we work so hard to help keep benefits rising through efforts like our petition, which you can sign here.
