Could senior citizens see a COLA increase in 2022?
The COLA – or cost-of-living-adjustment – for Social Security beneficiaries has been small. It went up only 1.3% in 2021. Seniors know that does not cover the rising costs of basic living. In fact, the 1.3% increase was the lowest since 2017 as prices for gasoline, medicine, and food skyrockets. Many basics continue to rise in the double digits!
A recent report published in Kiplinger suggests seniors may receive a COLA increase soon. In fact, the rise in COLA for 2022 may be 3%.
At NORA, we welcome such a step. We stand behind legislation for a permanent 3% COLA for seniors. But even with a 3% increase, more needs done. In recent years, seniors have endured COLAs that fall far short of covering actual cost of living increases. Therefore, we campaign for an increase of 3% that serves seniors retroactively to 2010.
Only this way will seniors receive the missing benefits they have earned!
If you agree, please sign our Benefit Reimbursement Petition to Congress. It only takes a moment. And it is the best way to let Congress know that seniors stand for the benefits they have earned.
