While retirees may be used to getting their Social Security checks, the program could be due for a change.
It’s been well-known for years that funds are running low. But the big question is how lawmakers will react in order to make sure that these benefits can continue going out.
They have a few options to consider – the first is that workers may be required to pay higher taxes on their income in order to fund Social Security. Another option could involve lifting the wage cap, so more workers will pay in even beyond the current limit of $142,800.
The final option to change how Social Security works could see benefits slashed for the wealthy, so benefits are prioritized for those seniors who need them for basic survival.
We’re calling for the passage of The COLA Act of 2021 to guarantee Social Security beneficiaries a Cost-of-Living Adjustment every year. We’re also urging our elected representatives to issue seniors a $10,970 reimbursement to make up for the years of no COLA.
Here at NORA, we’re committed to making sure all seniors get the full value of what they’ve paid into Social Security. Our petition for a COLA needs your signature – sign today, and consider following us on Facebook and Twitter for more updates about changes to Social Security.
