While every retiree’s path to their later years is different, some trends and patterns do emerge.
There’s a retirement trend that’s been gaining popularity for the past several years. More seniors were retiring early, conceding to receive smaller Social Security checks if it meant being able to exit the workforce sooner.
As we’ve discussed, this arrangement can make sense in the right circumstances. Seniors who don’t have high-income jobs or steady hours, or who have health issues and are unable to work any longer, may find it easier and healthier to retire early.
Some seniors may also choose to supplement their Social Security with private retirement savings as well as income from side hustles or other sources.
We believe seniors should be able to retire whenever they choose, and rely on their Social Security benefits. It’s why we fight on the legislative floor for fair yearly Cost-of-Living Adjustments (COLAs).
