A data breach at a Tallahassee healthcare facility may have compromised Social Security numbers.
This situation happened earlier this year, and IT systems were taken offline in February as a precaution. Patients were diverted if they had emergencies, and non-emergency appointments were rescheduled.
Other data that was accessed in the Florida breach includes names, medical information, and insurance information.
Many healthcare organizations are targeted by cyber attacks. For example, in addition to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, Southwest Healthcare Services and Arizona Liver Health also suffered recent breaches.
If your Social Security number is leaked in a breach, you can change it. As we’ve reported, this is one of the most commonly targeted data points out there. Sometimes these numbers even end up for sale on the dark web.
