FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 9, 2025
Washington, D.C. — The National Organization of Retired Americans (NORA) today released its 2025 Report to Congress, highlighting nationwide support for The COLA Act – legislation that would guarantee Social Security beneficiaries a fair and consistent annual Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA). As part of the report, NORA delivered 63,259 signed petitions from Americans in 48 states calling for the immediate passage of this vital legislation.
“Retired Americans across the country are sending a clear and unified message to Congress: We need a fair, guaranteed COLA every single year,” said Sean Murphy, Executive Director of NORA. “For too long, seniors have been shortchanged by Washington, with canceled COLAs in 2010, 2011, and 2016 – and no effort to reimburse them. The COLA Act changes that.”
The COLA Act would guarantee a fair annual COLA for all Social Security beneficiaries, ensuring benefits keep pace with real-world inflation.
Additionally, NORA is advocating for the inclusion of a $10,970 reimbursement for the years in which Congress failed to provide a COLA.
These demands are rooted in the constitutional right to petition the government for a redress of grievances – and NORA has mobilized tens of thousands of citizens to do exactly that.
“The message we’re delivering to lawmakers is simple: Seniors have earned these benefits through a lifetime of hard work. They deserve dignity, stability, and respect – not broken promises,” Murphy added.
NORA’s advocacy efforts are part of a growing grassroots movement to strengthen Social Security and protect the economic wellbeing of retired Americans. As policymakers debate the future of entitlement programs, NORA is ensuring the voices of older Americans are not only heard but impossible to ignore.
