The Social Security Administration has issued a new report regarding the surge in Social Security scams.

This rise in fraud has happened for a simple reason. That is, the pandemic has required the SSA to conduct more business by phone. Sadly, many scammers have taken advantage of this new opportunity. NORA has provided information in how to avoid these scams before. This new information, however, details what SSA will never do.

From the official document, the SSA advises it will not:

  • Threaten benefit suspension, arrest, or other legal action unless a fine or fee is paid.
  • Say that a Social Security number has been suspended.
  • Promise a benefit increase or other assistance in exchange for payment.
  • Require payment by retail gift card, cash, wire transfer, internet currency, or pre-paid debit card.
  • Demand secrecy in handling a Social Security-related problem.
  • Send official letters or reports containing personally identifiable information via email.

At NORA, we want all retirees to enjoy the life and benefits they have earned. That is why we campaign for a fair, permanent cost-of-living-increase of 3%. Additionally, we believe this COLA should be retroactive to 2010. Only this way will Social Security beneficiaries receive the full benefits they have earned.

Please consider signing our Benefit Reimbursement Petition to Congress. It is safe and it is easy. It is also the best way to let Congress know you believe in a fair COLA for all of America’s seniors!
