The Social Security Administration (SSA) is in the news with the grim Lisa Waldron case. After the mother was accused of murdering her son Jordan Brooks, she then collected thousands in his Social Security benefits.
While we’ve reported on other individuals who collected late relatives’ benefits, the difference here is that Brooks’s death was properly documented.
This isn’t the first mistake involving the SSA and the deceased. The organization has also incorrectly listed multiple people as dead, creating paperwork nightmares and depriving people of much-needed benefits.
Their oversight here is costly to all taxpayers. Waldron is accused of misusing over $7,000 of Brooks’s benefits while he was alive, and collecting nearly $6,000 after he died.
