With the recent news that Social Security insolvency is closer than ever, many seniors likely have concerns about the future of the program. Retirees want assurances that their benefits will not be cut. However, with the Social Security trust fund running out, seniors could be facing a 24% cut to their benefits. And according to at least one U.S. senator, Social Security improvements are needed soon.

Senator Mike Crapo of Idaho recommends that “Congress and the executive branch work closely together with a sense of urgency” to address the financial challenges facing Medicare and Social Security. Bipartisan efforts have improved Social Security in the past and could help protect the programs in the future.

At NORA, we’re calling on Congress to pass The COLA Act of 2021. The Social Security improvements this legislation would bring about include guaranteeing a COLA every year. Currently, retirees have to wait each year to find out if they will be receiving an increase in their benefits. However, this legislation would ensure that there is a boost every single year.

Join NORA today in calling for improvements to Social Security. We need your voice as we show Congress just how important this legislation is to seniors. Sign our online petition today. Then, follow NORA on Twitter and Facebook for all of our updates.
