The Social Security Support Crisis Continues

Have you ever reached out for Social Security support?

For many Americans, contacting the Social Security Administration (SSA) is a crucial matter. Some reach out to correct errors and handle administrative tasks, which they do to save themselves stress.

Others reach out for help getting or recovering their benefits. This type of need is much more pressing and can have a direct impact on their physical well-being. Unfortunately, the Social Security support crisis of recent years continues to get worse.

How Bad is the State of Social Security Support?

Just how bad have the support struggles at the SSA become? A representative of the American Federation of Government Employees referred to it as “The worst public service crisis in recent memory.”

We’ve covered some of the organization’s struggles here over the past couple of years. There have been cases of people left on hold on the phone for days at a time. Wait times are also long at in-person offices, a situation that has added safety concerns onto the frustrations.

Many errors have been made, such as individuals being listed as deceased, a recurring problem that’s still happening to this day and leaving people struggling to get their benefits back.

This isn’t to say the SSA hasn’t tried to improve. They’ve built a new website. For in-person services, they’ve also added safety protocols. They’ve even looked into other industries to find ways to upgrade their operations.

Sadly, even in spite of those efforts and more funding, this support situation could continue for years to come.

How Has This Situation Impacted You?

While some say more funding and staffing is the answer, others say major overhauls of the process are necessary. Though a mix of both solutions has been tried, problems persist. Have you been affected? We want to know.
