A Pittsburgh woman has been indicted on a charge of Social Security fraud.

The individual is accused of stealing and converting approximately $21,483 in money from the Supplemental Security Income program. The funds had been deposited into her late mother’s bank account.

Prosecutors say the 70-year-old woman knew she was not entitled to the money, but took it anyway. If found guilty, she could face up to a decade in prison and up to $250,000 in fines.

If proven guilty, her sentence would be based on the seriousness of the offense as determined by the court, along with any prior criminal history.
